Student Mental Health Examined Through a Sociological Lens
Over the summer I participated in an 8 week on-line Introduction to Sociology course through Georgetown University with Professor Elif Andac-Jones.
The final research paper assigned was to explore a sociological question that reflects an active sociological imagination.
An active sociological imagination is the connection between personal/private matters (student mental health) to broader social conditions of social groups (high school). Sociological imagination explains how personal aspects of someone’s life are very much influenced by broader social conditions. The sociological question I researched was whether or not mental health issues amongst high school students are primarily due to individual biological reasons, or are student mental health problems significantly rooted in the sociological influences that are so prevalent during this stage of a young adult’s life?
My research paper, Student Mental Health Examined Through a Sociological Lens, aligned seamlessly with my misson at Join Our PACK, and therefore I wanted to include it on my blog.
