My Contact with Dr. Binfet - Research on the Effects of Dog Therapy on Undergraduate Student Wellbeing

Dr. John Tyler Binfet

Dr. Binfet is a Professor at the School of Education at the University of British Columbia and the Founder and Director of B.A.R.K (Building Academic Retention through K9s). B.A.R.K. is a research driven program designed to support the emotional wellbeing of university students grappling with challenges around homesickness, social isolation, and integration into the university community.

Dr. Binfet’s research focuses on the effects of canine assisted intervention on undergraduate student wellbeing. In August 2021 B.A.R.K. was featured in People.com confirming the positive affects of campus therapy dogs.

My correspondence with Dr. Binfet has been hugely beneficial in understanding canine assisted intervention and its positive impact on college students. Dr. Binfet was kind to share with me his full research articles on the following studies listed below, in which I did a deep dive into the methods, results, discussions, and conclusions of each. Below are links to the abstract of his research studies and where to order the full article if interested in learning more:

I want to thank Dr. Binfet for sharing his research articles with me and broadening my knowledge relating to canine assisted intervention!
